Im about to get my engine rebuilt (starion block VR4 head) but have just found a 4g64 motor, out of a 90ish L300. Now I still want to go twin cam and turbo.
Will the VR4 head bolt to the block, can I use over sized vr4 pistons, instead of expensive custom pistons?
Ive got a big turbo for it and want decent power out of it so Ill also need aftermarket rods also.
Please people who have built these engines.... I need your advice.
This is a pic of what Ive got atm

I am pretty certain you will have to use pistons made specifically for the longer stroke crank. Wiseco have forged pistons specfically for a stroker 4g63 with a twin cam head.

I seem to remember that someone on this forum used 2mm oversized VR4 pistons.
I could understand the need for special pistons if you were using the g64 crank in a g63 block.

Actually you are right there with the 4G63 piston listed in the wiseco catelog as having the same compression height as the 4G64 listed with differences in the dish size and the bore size with the 4G64 having a 1.5mm larger bore as standard.

6 bolt = generation 1
7 bolt = generation 2
they changed somewhere in late 1992 i believe. the differences are flywheel bolts obviously, piston (gudgeon) pin diameter (larger), big end journal width (narrower), extra drains back to the sump from head too in most cases..

You might want to double check that the Pressure plate is the same as a Starions ? Or that the Pressure plate fins are the same distance away from the Block as they are on the Starion setup, otherwise your going to be messing around with it for little gain
