I've got the same problem at the moment, but from what I could see it looks like the pivot ball for the clutch fork has broken off. Either that or it's fallen out, but there sure isn't anything for the fork to pivot on. I'll update tomorrow when I get the 'box out.

Closer inspection revealed a brittle fracture on the end of the pivot where there used to be a ball. Looks like the box is definitely coming out.

Most auto stores should have a rebuild kit, I remember buying one for about 10 bucks a few years ago.
Been fine ever since too :)

My clutch did this after it was installed. It had an air block in the line. I simply removed the cap on the reservoir and manually pump the clutch up and down until it returned to full pressure. I had to do this for about 6 days in a row, but it's been solid ever since!

Check the rubber hose off of the slave cylinder to the master, it may have gone soft and is ballooning under pressure.

This also happened to my starion until the hose actually burst, nearly hit the car in front of me (as the clutch was engaged), then I had no clutch at all just heaps of smoke at the lights.

How embarrassing

Maybe the rubber pipe has collapsed inside, only causing enough pressure for a small time period.

This may be a possibility as rubber pipes do deteriorate after time.

The clutch may bleed normally but there could be a small piece of rubber blocking the hose once pressure is applied.

Replace the hose and see how ya go, can't hurt.

PEOPLES......

i have avail up here new seal kits for brake/ clutch master cylinders and clutch slave cyls, usually about $30-40 a kit but ill see what i can do for austarion forum members,
hey i might as well do something to contribute to this site :)

the only thing is the bore in the cylinder, if it is no good the cylinder will have to get sleeved, or a new kit will just leak, this is not a cheap process, especially including friegt to and from cairns,
so,
i will do some research asap, and get you guys a good firm price on new cylinders brake and clutch, also price on kits, always available,

KEEP WATCHING THIS TOPIC - im sure i can do a good deal for you all,
p.s btw i work at knights brake specialist, so nothin dodgey goin on :D
