Like i said i have done the cut air mod and it works good for me. Not only will it let more air in it also lets you hear the turbo screaming. I dont know i hope you just figure out what works best for you.

Should i cut the top of the air box or bottom? Does it matter??

I dont think it matters if you cut the top or the bottom. I would recomend the top. If you cut the bottom there is a possibility of water splashing up into it. Heres what one looks like on a 1g DSM to give you somewhat of an idea of what i am talking about.
