1UZ in Starion

Post by RiceThief »

I found this poking around SQC, theres a couple of vids on page 3, sounds sweet. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/inde ... 24391&st=0

It did make me wonder if 4gbeat has finished his conversion.

Edit: Yay I hit 2000 posts.

That was something I always wanted to do
I seen a Toyota V12 for sale, slightly narrower then a 1UZ, and about 2 inches longer then a 1JZ (which I have also seen in a Starion) so should possibly fit.
Might not be the best performing motor, but would be awesome just to have.

Twin charged 1uz's are better than one!

This car has gone 8.31, driven to the track and driven home. Runs on pump E85, full exhaust, steel guards & bonnet, engineered & rta approved!

I can't believe how cheap the engines are, you can get them as cheap as $1k.

Aaron will the twin turbo setup fit in a starion? The torana would have a wider engine bay?

Aaron, rule of thumb - all turbo V motors MUST be twin. If it's single it's not done right!

Rad, the pictures show it's a fairly tight fit - you could put two turbos in there, but you will most likely have reliability issues due to an very hot engine bay with tight clearances - it's definately doable.. but i think must be designed right for longevity. Also, the LS1 is actually smaller in size, albeit possibly heavier

Aaron's vid post is a capri, not a torana.

I was at a drag meet a while ago (between 5 and 10 years as a ball park) and there was an ra28 celica with apparently a stock long motor 1uz and twin turbos. Mostly stock body and interior with a simple cage, auto and big diff with slicks and was easily running into the 9's. I remember having a good look at it in the pits and it was pretty cramped in the engine bay but not too extreme. I heard the car was crashed not long after.
Having owned a 4cl turbo ta22 celica in the past I doubt the slightly longer ra28 bay is as wide as a starion. Probably not a simple street setup for a starion but it should be doable for a racer

the space difference in the engine bay between a ta22 and an ra23 onwards is vastly different I am told by a celica expert - what will fit in an ra23 will not fit in a ta22, so unfortunately comparing the ta22 engine bay to the starion isn't the same as comparing the ra23+ engine bays with the starion bay

Thrash, I think "vastly different" is a little exagerated, particularly in width, and more a matter of perspective from celica owners. I still highly doubt the ra28 bay is as wide as a starions, which was my intended point.

It's off topic anyway, no one here is thinking of putting a twin turbo v8 into a celica. My point was more that it has been done to small cars before, the example I witnessed had very little sheetmetal mods.
