So seems to be no fix to problem with my Staz...
Ive been working on this prob for weeks and weeks now.
I have been to a couple of mechanics. Also have had ideas from many of you and mates around the town.
Here is a post from a revious thread which explains what I thought it was doing at the time . .
Took me SIX hours to do a TWO hour drive at 40 km top speed farting and spluttering and back firing but yeah Im back ...
I kind of have other things I should be doing and this prob starting to make me a bit grouchy
Have done plugs, alternator, replaced any damaged leads, yesterday replaced coil, also sorted out a timing light and corrected the timing [ I had been betting it was that ..but no ] Staz really seems to be acting like timing is way out , with the distributor fully retarded im still getting 5 degrees of advance [ vacuum advance disconnected ] Tried retarding the distributor by one tooth and car would not start
today its ignitor
ANY ideas? The best way I can explain what its doing is that you put your foot down and once its past half throttle car will cough and splutter and bunny hop, wheels chirping , exhaust farting ...
also changed airflow meter...no difference.
all hoses and things are sweet.
so far have replaced
injectors
coil
coil lead
dizzy
rotor
dizzy cap
leads
plugs (correctly gapped)
alternator
fixed up the cam timing which was out by two teeth
set the dizzy up properly (it was off by 90 degrees, and all the leads were set up to suit)
wastegate actuator
checked wastegate for free movement
map sensor(factory boost guage now works perfectly and mimics my autometer exactly)
another old post:if you only have a light throttle pplication (i.e. no boost) the car will rev like normal, albeit slowly. as soon as you put your foot down, and boost goes up, it cuts out when boost hits ten psi. the factory boost guage is showing about 10 psi at the same time. taking off the car runs perfectly normally until boost comes on. have already changed the engine bay fuel filter. it really doesnt seem to be giving the symptoms of lack of fuel, until the cut.
UPDATE:.....Now it has gone back to jerking and shuddering like reaching a cut or no fuel or crap timing AS SOON as you hit boost on some occasions, other occasions car lets you reach maybe 3-5 psi before doing it .
So i go to drive car and basically as soon as hit 3000revs car will pop and slow down etc
I need to get this fixed.
Any more ideas ??

I'm amazed it ever ran at all set up like that :?Tamgesic wrote:fixed up the cam timing which was out by two teeth

I'm not a mechanic, but I do know a little about electronics. I would be checking whether all the pins in the plugs & sockets are clean & making good connection in the wiring loom. Also checking that the earthing is good.
One suspicion I have is that only 1 injector is being driven, possibly due to a faulty connector or even the ECU.
Good luck,

^^^ what he said. Was the first thing to come to my mind. It sounds like a fuel supply issue under load - check or your fuel filters, pumps and also the vacuum hoses (it doesnt take much of a hole/split to make a difference).
Good luck. :)

Two of my imports from Japan had similar symptoms. Both have been sitting around for years and consequently
condensation builds up in the fuel tank. Tank starts to rust and flakey crap builds up in the filters and lines....
more than likely, there is water in the fuel and/or injectors are affected in some way.
I went through the rigmarole of checking plugs, leads, dizzy, hoses etc thinking my (Dash) ecu was stuffed but it was all about the fuel supply!!

lol the triple posting gave me a laugh haha
Wow everyone is suddenly coming up with all the ideas now!
Will try stuff mentioned above.
Had thought it was spark but initially thought it was fuel too but then mate got bit off track thinking it was maybe a timing boost cut type prob.
Hoping this will sort it .
Thanks alot

Poor running
It sounds like you have a poor injector connection on one or both of them.
You might need to buy two new injector connectors and get them soldered into place. I had the same trouble on mine untill I renewed them.
They are the same as fitted on most petrol injection cars.
Regards Colin.

Changed the fuel pump to a bosch one
Now its just got a big whiney noise from the pump ..
...and STILL same problem
My Starion is now completely off the road and will not drive..just putts out
Having it off the road is killing me [ mainly because its my only form of transport as well ]
any more ideas????
