My Weekend Activities

Post by CussCuss »

I was sore, burnt, bruised, dirty and tired but dam it was fun. Went water skiing for the 1st time at lake st clair.

its about 40k's out of singleton wich is not far from newcastle so the trip up doesnt really take that long, traffic was great on the way up and back down, but it helps when your sitting in the back of a merc :)
The place itself is absolutely gorgeous, very secluded 17km's out of mobile range, nice and isolated but still has ammenities and ice so not roughing it too bad. The fact that my brother can cook up a mean roast in a camp oven helps too, 4 hours worth of cooking makes for some mighty tender meat, some awesome potatoes and the best pumpkin ive ever tasted. Lots of beer was sunk and snags was the main suppliment of food if we didnt really have anything else to eat.

Now to the best bit, the skiing.

this is lucy, she has a 350 chev, nicely worked, light as and goes like the stink. Awesome machine and a beautiful meaty sound thats fun to wake up the campsite at 6:30am. Since im a 1st timer and she has no neutral I never went behind her, but had a few rides in her and i can believe that it tops out at 100mph, turns on a dime too. Sorry cookie this is the new 'fastest thing ive been in'.
My tow boat was a more sedate family cruiser powered by the normal 2 stroke, more than enough to get my ~60kgs up and out of the water. Im proud to say that im a natural skiier, up first go but straight back down, 3rd time up and stayed up. by the 2nd day i had turns going and by the 3rd i had turns down and managed to get up on a single :) Had a biscuit out there too and gotta say thats some of the most reckless fun you can have on the water, gotta love coming out the corner and getting absolutely whipped. If you dont come back sore you havnt had enough fun.

Cheap as chups, camping fee is only $12.50 /tent /night most of the cost will go towards fuel but total costs should end up coming in at less than $50 a day each wich is well and truly worth it in my opinion.
Not that many things are passed down in my family but water skiing seems to be one of them, my parents and extended family used to go out togethers in their younger years and i think we have found a new easter tradition.

All in all, one of the best vacations ive ever had, enjoyed it immensely and cant wait to go out again.

thanks for the replies, it really feels good when people appreciate your work and makes me try to take even better ones next time.

tmz_99 surprisingly your not the 1st person to say that lol.

i took this one while still sitting in bed in my sleeping bag, nice to wake up too. It really shows how still the water is in the morning, by the time we got out the fog had lifted enough.

Looks beautiful dude, that lake would be awesome for water events. Sounds like you had a pretty mint weekend.

I took the liberty of borrowing the 'god rays' pic to have some Photoshop fun :)
