Nope, check for a short, start with the fuses under the steering wheel!

I'd say either a melted wire, maybe an earth or some sort of strange occurance.
Clock should not be on, but it's also not enough to drain a battery. The short may be somewhere else.
Have you got good battery terminals? Also check all the ground points, especially the engine ones! :(

I had this happening and found that after I
removered an after market sterio I forgoten
to hook up the earth wire on the right side of
the centre consol/radio/side panel of the consol
I was told by a lec-ie that this wire is required
for a lot of the dash earthing and the clock
how ever I tried another clock and (fixed it is ??)
STILL Ive had it only when playing around with
the radio dash area.

I know this is a late reply but the clock
is always on in my starion. Was like that when
I brought it and ever since.
It was 100% standard when I got it and is still
close to factory spec.
Even had the stock radio when I brought it.
Car usually sits in the garage for 3 to 4 weeks at a
time. Alarm on, battery sweet as!

Mine used to stay on. Filled it up with rp7 and belted the crap out of the buttons. Doesn't stay on now, but does when the ignition is on. Although you can only set the time by hours and if you're lucky you will get the right one.
