The original is buggered so the vr4 was a compromise!

I went through the same thing myself..... grind the little tabs down on the side, beat the shit outta the chassis rail then install it on an angle, finally a little twist and it fits into the holes in the rail....
the question, Raymond; is does the bonnet close?
