There are alot of benefits of forged pistons, they can handle more power loadings and are more resistant to detonation. The only downside to them are the cost, forged pistons are alot more expensive than cast and usually if you upgrade to forged pistons it makes sense to upgrade the conrods as well, so you have the cost of forged conrods as well. The only downside is forged pistons have a lower silicone content so they expand more than cast pistons, so they can be noisy when your engine is cold.oped wrote:So forged pistons are really non benefitial?

The noise is the norm for forged pistons as they expand more than cast pistons, so its part of normal operation of forged pistons thus wont damage the engine. How bad the noise is from a sound point depends on the engine builder and the clearances they use.oped wrote:Is the noise bad though. Intercoolers and water injection basically do the same thing, its just a different way of doing it.

If you have enough fuel (MPI set up) and either forged or late model evo pistions (which are good for 18-19 psi as factory evo's run these days) you'll be good for 20psi all day. As for the nosie of forge's, i built my gsr-x sigma with forgie's and from cold every use to say "wots wrong with it?" (didn't help the pistons where shitty dencos!) but once warm it was fine, most engines now i put the late model (evo 6-8) pistons in, but u haft the get the rod's machined for gudeons and top end width, no biggie thou. they a quiet and reliable... and of course.... Intercooler! my 2cents
