Intercooler

Post by truespinmice »

hi,

I have a little problem.

I have a '84 Starion without IC and injection mixer like below(pic of my engine bay):

I know that Starions with IC have injection mixer like this one:

Question is......can I put factory IC to my Starion?? (without changing injection mixer or ECU or enything else like AFR????)
I also notice that turbo is different (lightly) and you may say that turbo is rotate about 180 degreese.

what is the difference between my injection and injection with IC??
my ECU and ECU with IC are that same??

ps. I would like to enhance (a little) power of my ride.

thanks for help,

regards, Maciej

Yes you can.

You can rotate the turbo (carefully) 180 degrees. You will need to make a custom bracket to hold the wastegate, or you can leave it attatched by only one bolt. Just stick a bar into the outlet (carefully again) and rotate slowly.

You will have to relocate the radiator overflow bottle, there's a place on the back of the nose cone (original bolt will even screw right in).

The oil cooler lines will get in the way a bit. You can bend these out of the way carefully.

The standard intercooler pipe whih goes into the throttle body bends downwards into the later style throttle body. You can just chop the end off and get a silicon adaptor to fit between.

If you're prepared to pay for shipping you could source one from the USA.
If you get one from an '89 Widebody, they have 14 rows (compared to 16 on the earlier models), and flow a little bit more.
pm Oscar-the-Grouch on here if you'd like to take that path

Correct me if i am wrong but you motor looks to be a 2.0 where the second picture is a 2.6 liter. I have a Us non IC conquest and im Intercooling it i am just swapping the cold side of the turbo from an IC turbo to the turbo on my Car therfore you wouldnt have to change anything with the wastegate.
