How to: Cold Air Intake
How to: Cold Air Intake
Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has done a CAI on their Starion and if so what is the best way i should go about it??? The standard one inside the right front quarter panel doesnt look that efficient to me.
Also if anyone got any photos of it that would be great.
Appreciate the help as always! :D

Hold on there champ!
The Standard Starion airbox contains the AFM! This NEEDS to be in there for the antique computer to function! In order to upgrade the intake system you will need an aftermarket computer. There has been some mods made using a pod and filtering cold air into the stock airbox, but it's messy! :beer

hope you thought of an intercooler firstMarc wrote: Just wondering if anyone has done a CAI on their Starion
cooling the air after the turbo is more important

Yes, true in every way!
....but 10 times the cost. I have to say, the gain in doing the cold air mod is minimal as these cars have cold air anyway, but every little bit helps and with winding up the boost it's a good thing. I would say that just keeping your air cleaner in top shape will give you more performance. I see 90% of them are in crappy shape coming through here, so yea, in most cases i fling u a new one free or wash out your mesh one.

I would love to install an IC! Of course there is NO comparison between the 2 mods. But don't have that $$$ right now for an IC.
Just looking on doing some much cheaper mods for time being....

Did you ever consider just cutting your stock air can. I did it on my car wish i had pictures but i dont. But if you are looking to just bring in more air this works well. I have a picture of it done on my 1g DSM but i dont know how to load pictures from my saved file. You could probably just search "Cut air filter mod 1g" and you would probably see what i mean.

when the cars moving, all the hot air will move to the back of the engine bay so the air around the filter box will be reasonably cool.Marc wrote:yeah i've seen this done before... correct me if i'm wrong, but arnt i just letting in more hot air from the engine bay if i cut it????
