Gearbox for Sirius dash?

Post by gjgnz »

Will the factory 8 valve gearbox fit the 12 valve dash motor? If not, what will?

The Dash FWD bellhousing is narrower that the Starion RWD 8 valve engine. FWD to FWD will be conpatible, but not FWD to RWD.

I believe tat there are some RWD DASH engines, if so, they should be fine. otherwise, just swap the heads.

Yep, unfortunately its a fwd motor and I have now found out it definately won't fit the staz box :( Are there any boxes from a sigma/galant/l200/l300 etc that will fit? I'd rather not have to pull the motor apart.

Sigma's are narrow block aren't they, auto's are wide block. Maybe you'll get lucky and the pattern is similar.
Failing that, adaptor plate.

i'm not sure if they come with a hyraulic clutch, i'm using a cable clutch...but then my car came out with that from the factory so it was easy.

i also have a gearbox(still cable from a sigma) that has the same dimensions everywhere as the starion except fot the bellhousing that bolts straight up to the vr4 block, so if i decide to upgrade i won't be doing the starion block/vr4 head but the whole vr4 conversion...

No, any Engine which has been fitted and removed from a Cordia is the 'Narrow type' where as the Starion g/Box only accepts the 'Wide type' Engines, without modifications, which are generally from RWD donors

Though I have seen one idiot that had modified their Cordia g/Box to fit a Starion 2L in it  :wtf:

Starion (and other RWD Mitsu) have the wider block. Cordia (and FWDs) have the narrow block.
