It's an evo 6 motor. Gearbox is on the left side in an evo6 (as opposed to the right in a VR4, GSR or Evo1-3)
Only done two rallies, bargain.

glenjo, EVO4 and onwards motors have the ehxuast and intake on opposite sides, even the turbo is oriented the other way. Would be good for rallies, keep the exhaust away from the braking/steering. Plus the normal EVO6 motor can pull good hp reliably :)
I think in the 4WD the idea was to keep the intake cooler by putting it towards the front of the car, were previously air had to go over the exhaust and would then heat the entire engine bay.

Oh, why did they bother then, just to put the gearbox on the other side?flappa wrote:The turbo is still at the front in an evo, intake at the back.SpidersWeb wrote:I think in the 4WD the idea was to keep the intake cooler by putting it towards the front of the car, were previously air had to go over the exhaust and would then heat the entire engine bay.

It simplified things, the VR4, GSR & E1-3 with the box on the right side have an extra lay shaft to spin everything the other way so we can go forward with 5 gears instead of backwards. Evo4+ have the motor the right way around (hence the intake and exhaust swap) and so they don't have the extra shaft.

GSR 3 starion block, re-sleeved, new bearings throughout, new balanceshaft tensioners, balanced vr4 evo 0 crank and rods, evo 0 pistons, re-conditioned and ported evo 0 head. comes with evo 4 inlet manifold minus throttlebody, starion gearbox with near new clutch, pressureplate and thrust bearing, no turbo or manifold, never run due to project being too expensive.
