3" system
3" system
hey can some people tell me the prices they spent on there 3" stainless steal exhausts, if u have one of course.
but im thinking about getting one and i can get the 3" stainless steal pipe from work for free so i was wondering will that cut out a big chunck of the cost for the exhaust?

SR20 powered starion what have I done..... :P
Speak to your exhaust guys. Do you want mandrel bent or press bent?
I think weld in mandrel bends are roughly $50 3" 90* s/s. If you have the pipe this will reduce the price obviously but remember you also need a s/s muffler which is more than a m/s.
Why s/s? Are you planning on keeping the car for another 10 yrs?

i supplied stainless steel 2.5" piping (also thicker) and got turbo back for around $800 including muffler.

I had a 3" dump pipe already but the rest of the system was very shody! So I got 3 inch from dump back to a cannon only for $450. This was tooooooo loud but I loved it! Kinda sounded like a WRX went it came on boost. But I then had a high flow muffler fitted mid way at the expense of $150.
$450 for pretty much straight pipe and an S-bend to the cannon
$110 for 3A Racing cannon muffler (I dont give a crap)
$150 for Hi flow 3 inch muffler and welded in
$710 all up

Sure 3" is pointless for city driving, but so is a sports car..skip wrote:I got two quotes for my JD: 2.5" mandrel bent, mild steel, cannon style muffler, new hi flow cat, from turbo back for $900. 3" would be another couple of hundred.
I read somewhere on a US Starion parts dealer site that 3" is 'pointless' for city driving. Opinions?
I had a 3" and it did lose a bit off the bottom end compared to a 2.5" and was bloody loud, but the top end was great. I ended up changing down to a 2.5" because of noise and large amounts of time spent highway cruising, but i do miss the ol' 3"/
please dont perpetuate myths, unless your car is NA this does not happenChris 83JA wrote:Sure 3" is pointless for city driving, but so is a sports car..skip wrote:I got two quotes for my JD: 2.5" mandrel bent, mild steel, cannon style muffler, new hi flow cat, from turbo back for $900. 3" would be another couple of hundred.

That's just how I saw it, with the 3", the car would hit 10psi at 4200-4500rpm, with the 2.5" (actually 3" dump -> centre muffler, then 2.5" after that) the car would hit 10psi at about 500rpm lower and felt a bit stronger in the lower revs.CussCuss wrote:please dont perpetuate myths, unless your car is NA this does not happenChris 83JA wrote:Sure 3" is pointless for city driving, but so is a sports car..skip wrote:I got two quotes for my JD: 2.5" mandrel bent, mild steel, cannon style muffler, new hi flow cat, from turbo back for $900. 3" would be another couple of hundred.
