Won't idle correctly

How are you reading the code?
The correct way is to turn ignition on and read the code with a volt meter. An analogue meter is the best to use.
If there are no codes it will just show 12v. If there are codes, it should start with the lowest numerical code 1st. Flash on for 0.4 seconds, flash off for 0.4 seconds etc. There will be a break of 2 seconds between codes with no voltage.
Fault codes are :
1) O² Sensor
2) Ignition signal
3) Air flow sensor
4) Pressure sensor
5) TPS
6) Motor position sensor
7) Coolant temperature sensor
8) Vehicle speed sensor
O² sensor needs to be checked with engine hot and running. The Air flow sensor can be forced to throw a code just by revving the motor - it doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with it.

Well you could be right. I have to admit that I have never checked for codes on a dash engine.
However there are still some things in my post that are relevant. For instance I would only check for codes with the ignition on and not running. The code list is probably correct. The only thing that a dash engine has that a sohc doesn't is a solenoid for the extra valve.
Binary codes are pretty rare, but they exist normally in the format of:

Another thing that you could do is clear all the codes by disconnecting the battery, then map out the codes by disconnecting sensors one at a time until you get a full list.

Thank you coop1er! I've been looking for something to tell me how to read these damn pulses. I had found a list of codes but nothing on how to read them. From memory I'm sure that one code is definitely the oxygen sensor but I'll look into the others later.
