Removing window sealer or sikaflex.

Post by panda »

My JB rally car project has nearly reached the stage of a full body repaint. To install & weld in the roll cage, I removed all the glass but there is a lot of old sealant like sikaflex remaining around all the window frames & tail-lights. Is there any easy way to remove this stuff before it goes off to the paint shop.

Either the twisted wire from a window removal kit, or the old heat gun & scraper job.

If you are not worried about the paint underneath, then I'd just use a wire wheel on an angle grinder. It'll rip that shit right off.

For a repaint the window adhesive just needs to be cut back with a long blade stanley knife. No need to remove it completely, a thin layer left on the body is fine to paint over. Non cure sealer used on tailights etc can be removed with wax and grease remover, scrap it off best as u can beforehand.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm still working on other areas of the build at the moment, but will get to removing the window goo very soon.
