AMAZING Starion spotted today!!

Post by cannonballer »

Hi guys, haven't posted on here in a while since I sold my Starion but regularly visit to have a wee drool over some of the projects going on here.

Anyway, today I saw a pretty mint looking red starion which parked up just down from where I was standing. Upon closer inspection I realised it actually was completely mint! it just needed a clean to show off a little. An old lady was driving it (very carefully) with her husband in the passenger seat who, it turns out had bought the car new here in New Zealand. Here are the drool factors.....

1987 Mitsubishi Starion EX
Full black leather interior
Original everything from wheels to tape deck!
and here's the real kicker............................
.................................................................
Odometer:
16,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naturally I asked if they wanted to sell it. They said yes but the old man may give it to his sister if she wants it.......
I had a look at every panel, I couldn't even see a stone chip! Backseats had never been used, front seats had seat covers, carpet looked brand new as did the parcel tray.
Gave them my business card and they said they would give me a call. Here's hoping!

What's everyone's thoughts on its value? I would love to buy it but need to look at it realistically as its not something I need but more something that I want (MUST HAVE!! :D )

Wasn't silver was it?
Hang on I seen an extremely mint, and I mean like it rolled off the show room floor. Nz new ex with only a few k's on it, although this one had the red leather interior. I forget the price (Jas might remember) but well worth it. The engine bay was so clean you could literally eat off any surface.
Oh and it was in Christchurch as well.

I know of an old guy in Auckland who has a similar one with only 20000km on it. Absolutely immaculate car only ever driven on weekends! Didnt want to sell it though :(

Id think realistically it'd be worth 10-12k?

Don't go off the joker wanting 16k on trademe, there is no way they're worth that much.

The one on trademe is the Chch one I think, from a car yard on Ferry Road. There is also a tidy one owner silver 87 flat intercooler model (4DEAR no. Plate) with about 60,000miles I had my eye on as its serviced around the road from me.

The red one I haven't seen i don't think but since they're the best spec Starions ever came in :D I say its worth a fair bit more than the silver one maybe even what he is asking for the silver one. ( i know they're the same, red on black is more desirable in my view)

Wheels and front spoiler ruin it.

PS As an aside some dropkick has made Wiki say that the NZ new Starions have 168kw, how do you fix that bullshit?

If that silver one is the one from ferry road and still in the same condition... It was literally show room condition and totally original.

I wouldn't be surprised if they want $15k for it, but I haven't heard from them so who knows. The thing hasn't been driven in 5 odd years. In 1996 it had done 15,711 miles, it's now done about 16,500 miles. It's like this thing has hardly been out of the garage! I reeeeeally hope they call me and tell they would like to sell it for $5000.......buuuuuuuut I don't think that's likely haha!
