Lotus sports exhaust has now been fitted.

And a baffled sump is on order.

I may have bought one of the last Exiges in Australia.

From the Lotus forum..

Toyota has stopped 2ZZ engine production so as to meet the Euro V emissions regs - basically it was binned so Toyota could get its average fleet CO2 figure below the Euro V target (this target level decreases year-on-year from now until 2020). The 1.6L unit takes over in volume sellers like the Corolla. Lotus has already switched the Elise S over from the 1.8L 1ZZ to the new 1.6L 1ZR-FAE.

Lotus also announced it will stop selling the 2ZZ-engined models in Europe after 31 December 2010 (although I'm not sure if that has anything to do with Euro V) and that explains the current rash of Ltd Edition Exiges. Lotus has got enough stock of 2ZZ engines to continue model production for maybe another 6 months for the rest of the world. After they're used up - probably by May/June 2011 - then production ends. So goodbye Elise R, Elise SC and all Exige variants.

There's no news about replacement engines or plans for performance variants of the 1ZR so it's anyone's guess if there will be performance versions of the current Elise/Exige available 6 months from now. I heard Evora production was being increased, maybe that's to be at the expense of Elise/Exige production, who knows? Do we really think Lotus is going to introduce one or more of their new Esprit/Elite/etc model line-up from the Paris Show in 6 months, just in time to pick up from the end of Elise/Exige production?

If industry rumours are true that the transformation of the management team is just part of a beauty parade to sell off the company, then there must be a good chance we are looking at the end of Lotus production altogether, or at least the end of the Chapman period?

That is one very very pretty car.

I've followed the progress of a similar model being restored here in New Zealand, they're quite an amazing machine under the skin! Well impressed.
