major problem with rebuild
my JA has been off the road for a month now and i have been fixing it between jobs at work. i have done rings, bearings, new oil squirters, new gaskets (everywhere), put a spare head on as mine was cracked between valve seats. the head has been faced and pressure tested. i put everything back together but when i turned it over it dumped water into all the bores. so i pulled the top end back apart but the head gasket was fine so swapped the inlet incase that was cracked internally, and got the head pressure tested again but that was all fine. and it still dumped water in the bores. i've had enough of pulling it apart and putting it back together so i thought ill ask if anyone has had the same issue, or any ideas what else it may be... thanks shane.

throttle body gasket? i assume still tbi?

"dumped water in all the bores?!?" are you sure all of them?
1 cracked cylinder = water in 1 bore. 4 cracked cylinders. Unlikely.
1 cracked head or bad head gasket = typically water in 1 bore.
I'm with redzone... inlet manifold... have you got some coolant hoses mixed up with the EGR valve/jet valves?? Crazy but to get water in all bores... that's crazy too...

the hoses are deffinately all in the correct spot. yeah all the bores get water in them but number 4 filled up the most. im thinking it only fills them all up by goin back through the inlet manifold. im getting the head tested by another machine shop today to get a second opinion. i bench tested the inlet manifold and throttle body by blocking all water ports off and filling it up and there was no sign of leaking but it wasnt at pressure so it cant really cancel it out i guess. ill let you know how i go. cheers

are you SURE one of the throttle body bypass hoses isnt connected to the brake booster nipple on the intake manifold? it's in the right spot for no.4 to be filling up..

the booster hose has its own connection where as the throttle body water line has a 't' connection with the heater hose. ill double check all the hoses but im 99% that they all good :) i've got the head back and it is all good so must be somethin in the inlet i guess. ill keep at it and keep everyone up to speed
good news, i got the head re machined, the inlet manifold machined, and threw in a new head gasket and it seems to have fixed the problem. its not completely back together but im almost there. its still wierd how it got water in all cylinders but i think it might be because the inlet valves were open the water was filling up the manifold then going into the bores. thanks everyone for the help. ill let you know when its all done.
