Rebuild kit for steering boxes??
Hi there
My brother's JA starion has the worst steering i've ever seen!! There is so much play in the wheel its a joke. He's looking at building it into an improved production race car.
So was just wondering can you buy new steering boxes or is there a rebuild kit available???
If anyone has any info or ideas or prices that would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

The bushes in the steering will also contribute to poor steering response. Replace them all and get the drag link reco'd. Redzone can do this.
Im looking into all of this at the moment.

If at the end of the day you need a replacement steering box I have a spare one here in good condition that I dont need anymore and keen to move on so the price would be very reasonable.
But as the guys say, get the drag link and bushes attended to first and see if that fixes the problem.

Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

as posted above, its probably other issues.. get someone to shake the wheel side to side and stick your head under and see where the play is..

can anyone recommend someone or somewhere to get the steering box / pump resealed on my JA, there seems to be minimal play but its leaking like a sieve.! Exchange box / pump may also be an option.
Somewhere in SA would be nice, but happy do deal via post. I figure I may as well do it while the enigne is out and there is plenty of room.!

Update on the price to get a ps box reco'd.
Mine was of a poor condition from being used with out a pump for over 8 years after I had done a T/C conversion. I was lucky that I was strong enough to be able to steer it the way it was.
After discovering how to mount the PS pump and having done everything else mentioned earlier in this blog recently, I suffered huge amounts of play and was at the stage where it was becoming unsafe.
A very kind mate who has his own shop and does the deal for what he pays, BHSS $599.00. (that hurts), the tightness in the steering now is an awsome feeling though I believe that they do very good work and I think others will testify to that.
At the moment the car is on stands while I await a solution for a siezed handbrake cable. I have also replaced the brake lines with braided lines, re kitted the front calipers had the rear caliper, booster and master cylinder reco'd. I am looking forward to getting it up and running again soon.
