Can anyone post some pics of a modified L300 manifold with a barrel plenum, showing how its done.

just a thought when it comes down to aftermarket ECU I have almost got my delfi computor wired up ( LS1 cheve ) to run some 50 mm quads on the sigma
it will wire so that ever second spark and injector is not wired in
these could be a super cheap option and these run multi coil std so far the cost
$ 270 for a brand new ecu ( ebay ) under $ 100 for coils ( ebay ) $ 100 for a loam ( wreckers ) I also grabed the cas sensors - air temp at the same time and where throne in
this should be running by the end of the year

Still keen to see how this is setup and done Steve. Obviously the tunability is a major factor and particularly as you are running N/A and I won't be. However, if I'm happy with the results I'll be headng down your path. Good to hear you've nearly sorted it too.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
How?

You simply cut off the triangular phlenumn and weld whatever size round tube back on pointing to the front with say a 60 mm throttle body of your choosingpanda wrote:Can anyone post some pics of a modified L300 manifold with a barrel plenum, showing how its done.
You should find pics if you search the PICS OF QLD STARION CRUISE in CRUISES & EVENTS there are shots of KIT (moneybags ) and my car as well
I've had mine since 03 07 92

there are plenty of older style a/market ecu's around for sale , an ols wolf 3d v3 can be had for 300 bucks , fairly good for every day dutys .
find an ecu that your tuner can tune , and work well with. pointless to take a motec to a rotary guy that can work a micro tech.
as far as plenumbs go ,, you need to balance it up with air voulume and flow per capacity per engine size , dont go wack an enlarged rajab vl plenum on a4 cyl it wont work , but that desighn on a smaller scale would be very good , an experienced person with the 4g63 should know that you need to run the last 2 cylenders a bit richer...i like the runners on the sonata , longer , i will get around ot the plenumb as i only have the stock one with the el t/body , a bit small and the flow is not the best.

Try to keep the fuel mixtures the same , in every cylinder , lots of diffrent schools of thought , get a water hose and sqirt the water in a fuel injector rail and see how the water favors diffrent ports . Same with manifolds

laser pyrometer on each exhaust manifold runner just as it exits the exhaust side is a good trick on the dyno :)
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

we have from sub $200 diy(or ~$340 assembled)... to $500-650 fuel-only... to $750 holley commander... to $950 sds... and the usual $1100+ choices... in addition to "staz-specific wire-in" $500-700 systems also. Can't imagine having a better selection available.RiceThief wrote:I should add that in australia we are spoilt for choice when it comes to aftermarket ecus so unless you know your way around electronics it ends up cheaper to go the aftermarket ecu route.
MPI intake eliminates inferior TBI distribution and restrictions.
If u can retain the reliable stock ecu, with only minor wiring mods for injectors, then introduce tunability via a piggyback.... it 'should' be an interesting option.
GM MAFT replaces puny oe mafs and a novice can wire & tune quickly.
While standalone has more features/control, it comes with usual install/rewire headaches, parts to buy & tuning cost.
Question is, do u need that for your goals ?
I highly doubt the overall price could be close for the 2 paths either.
Observing the more powerful 2L staz with modified plenums, I was curious how much of a difference they made, and what determined plenum size.redzone wrote:and chop off the stock shitty plenum and make a barrel type one. relocate the throttle body to the front of the plenum for easy and short intercooler piping. the stock plenum is a real power killer... use a 60mm commodore or falcon throttle body.
Also, if/when do the stock long curvy runners become a hinderance.
These questions come to mind after seeing the excellent street hp and tq a stock magna intake has proven on hi boost 2.6s.

KIT made 342hp atw with a 4LT plenum on the long runners of a L300 manifold with a puny little GT2871R.
quest, what works and is accepted in one country is not always gonna work too well in another country...

You've missed the point with my post, your 1100+ systems are which brands? Haltec, motec, autronic among others, which are funnily enough come from Australia. So when i say we are spoiled for choice we have a large range of aftermarket systems available with large amount of features at a low price. Thats not including the secondhand market where you can pick up a wolf v3 for around 300 which controls fuel and ignition.quest wrote:we have from sub $200 diy(or ~$340 assembled)... to $500-650 fuel-only... to $750 holley commander... to $950 sds... and the usual $1100+ choices... in addition to "staz-specific wire-in" $500-700 systems also. Its not the runners that are a hinderance on the l300 manifold its the plenum itself. Have you seen a stock l300 plenum its nothing like a magna one which spans the length of the head giving it a decent amount of volume, so your example of cars in the states making good hp with the magna intake has no relevance with the L300 manifold.quest wrote:Also, if/when do the stock long curvy runners become a hinderance.

the dyno guys over the road from work are tuning LS1 stuff all the time
I also intend on going down the dark path of turbo for the 4 door starion next year and I wont the ECU to work for both N/A and boost
