Australian Made Starions?
Hi All,
I was just wondering if any one knows of or has proof of Starions being manufactured in Australia? If so were they manufactured at Tonsley Park?

Lookin for people in SA with Starions to go on croozes with, share information etc etc
Re: ...
Are you sure? I'd have thought the Australian plant's would do minor assembly if anything at all, though I have no proof....NachoMan wrote:Yes they were.
The VAST majority of Starions in Australia, were made in Australia.
I believe it was Tonsley Park also.
and it was before my time.

Re: ...
no, they were fully imported, just like the scorpions were. no starions were ever assembled in australia, or any other part of the world for that matter. america was the largest market, and they were imported from japan aswell...NachoMan wrote:Yes they were.

From what i read somewhere. Galant, Sigma, Colt and Magna were the only Mitsubishis made in Aus.
Redzone is right about the US being large market for Starion. Figures on SQC say that 1/4 of all Starion/Conquest made went to the US.

Some Scorpions had borg warner diffs (and gearbags?) in them. There must have been some australian assembly.redzone wrote:no, they were fully imported, just like the scorpions were

i dont know a lot about the later ones, but the early shape scorpions were all japanese diffs and alloy case gearboxes, and were fully imported. both my brothers had them in the early 90's, had sales brochures etc, said they were fully imported...
maybe the later ones had local content. or they shipped the driveline parts over to japan to be fitted for the aussie cars (there were big tax & tariff concessions for local content back then)

Why does it say on the firewall plates that this vehicle was manufactured under licence by Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd etc...?
Surely if Mitsubishi Motors Australia claims to have made them, then they were made in Australia?

same reason that import plates have the compliance company down as the manufacturer. the car is seen by FORS as being manufactured by whoever complied it to suit australian design rules.

i believe that all Starions were manufactured in Japan and exported around the world. I can't find any solid proof that Mitsubishi manufactured them at Tonsley, but if anyone can prove otherwise it would be very interesting.
