wheel sizes for widebody

Okay it is time for my wheel purchase : I know the rim the style but am not 100% as to width and offset. I know this has been discussed before but before I jump in and order I am interested in others opinions.

I am going 'Simmons' in the OHM 18" Dia with what I believe to be a good size without being extreme: 10" rears and 9" fronts.

My only concern is a lot of widebody pics I have seen with bigger rims seem to have 'narrow' fronts with not a great amount of dish. I want to fill the guards (get the offset right) as well as 'balance' the look with a fair bit of dish both front and rear.

Does this sound right? What do you think? :?

P.S. If you would like a set I can get them for approx $2800 delivered in the 18" x 10"/9" combination with painted centers (was offered last year at $1500 but change in management so miss out now - bummer!) this is a wholesale price supposedly.

Go with 17's for our cars so you can run a nice size tire which will give you more meat and taller side walls to hook better as well . Heres my set of Boyd Coddingtons , 17's ; 315 rear 245 front

Thanks for the pics. I intend running the 18"s as I am going to do a bit of track work with it. I hope to run Bridgestone RE55s. Yours looks very good I am looking for a bit more dish on the front - what width and offset are your fronts and what is the strut clearance like on the inside front and rear?

get some ebtter tire choices with 18s and real wide. A local friend is working on a car with 18x11.5 in the rear and 18x10 or 10.5 in the front. I'll see if I can find ot his offsets. You'd need to run coilovers with that size I believe. Looked damn good though.

My fronts are 9 " and my rear are 10.5" ; but I do not recall the offset right now . I actually have a custom rear suspension set-up NOT shown in that picture .

Have a look at JAS wide body, he's got a huge set of 18's with awesome dish and some nice wide tyres.
Ask him about widths and offset

His rims used 1/2" hubcentric spacers. They tried to make them with the correct offset, but the forged center was just not abe to be forged in that depth with out being made too weak (too much leverage).

It was 9-1/2" up front, 11" in the rear. I belive the rears were 56 mm (minus the 12 mm spacer) and something like 32 mm (minus 12 mm) up front. These were on coil-overs with un-cut spring perches.

They fit with no clearance issues or further modifications. It did rub the frame rails on full-tight turns, but that is to be expected when you widen the fronts so much. Simple turn-stop adjustment to fix that.

Steve,

I would suggest +15 on the 9" front and rear 10" I would get 0 offset. Double check by physically measuring the distances on the car from the hub face for clearances to the strut and wheel arches.

After hours of measuring I reakon you are right on the money Charlie!
I think if I put ccoil overs on it would be even better in terms of the fronts

my old wheels were 18 x 9.5+24 and 18 x 10.5 -12. Hence my recommendations.

Doing a quick comparison that would be the same offset for the fronts with my rims having 3mm more dish than your fronts. The rears though are on mine 18mm less dish and inside rim edge would be 5mm closer to the suspension! Do you think the rear rim being 5mm closer would be a problem compared to how much clearance you had when your rims were fitted? and did the front and rear tyres foul at all on the guards? were your guards rim lip rolled? I will try and look at a few of the pics closely of your widey with those rims on. Thanks Steve
