Rust in Firewall Seam

Post by bigd »

Has anyone had this problem where the seam along the firewall (engine bay side) has puffed up and has rust along it?
Right along the back you can see it if you look carefully under where the throttle cable is dodgily cable-tied back

Does this mean the whole firewall is rotten and my car is about to fall apart?
What is the remedy? - Does it mean replacing the whole firewall?
Please tell me some good news!!

Most likely surface rust along the seam.

If you can get access to it you should just be able to rub it back, prime over, and paint.

Otherwise hit with some fish oil in the meantime so it doesn't progress any further.

Yep, agree with Cookie - looks like surface rust. You might like to use some rust converter instead of fish oil, as you have to make sure you get rid of all the oil before you paint. The rust converter gives you a pre-primed surface.
