does anyone know of any rack and pinion conversions. last time I asked no one knew, but is there any rumors of one that will fit? or anything. if not, I would like to start a rumor. I think I found one that will fit. but it wont happen until I tackle my 4wd conversion. witch I am still unsure about. I can make it all fit but will it handle the vr4? and will it slow the car down on the bends or help it? And can I “fiddle” the transfer case to make it disengage the front wheels when I want? all on tarmac of course. also, what are your thoughts on double wishbone on the front vs. McPherson strut? As getting the driveshafts to go around the strut is gonna be a pain in the ass!

6 - 7k?!?! dude, I cant afford $1 at the moment. buying little bits every now and then is a bit different than just buying a new car. besides, where is the fun in that? anyway, can you imagine how much that would piss off a wrx guy? "you might have all wheel drive, but I have selectable 4wd." "yegh, well my car has.... wait, what did you just say?!?!?!"
so nobody has a decent rack eh? :D has anyone tried be4?
also, hasn’t anyone ever wondered why there is a big pressing in the floor on the rhs of the rear housing of the gearbox? like it is there to accept a much larger rear housing..... and those funny mounts on the bottom of the chassis rail?

This is the closest i can find. He put a rover rack and pinion setup into a Galant (Sigma). I don't like the way he modified the struts to mount it at the front of the crossmember.

Ackerman angle refers to the way the front wheels are at different angles when turning. For example, when turning full lock to the right, the drivers side wheel is at a much greater angle from straight then the passenger side.

Been doing some more searching, and found that the Castlemaine Rod Shop has a conversion kit for either power or non-power steering racks onto an L300 front end. Maybe it would work? http://www.rodshop.com.au/diff.htm

Rack and pinion...
I can think of a Group A Starion that had one installed... At least until the Scrutineers discovered it.
The guy who did it lives in Queensland... If you track him down he might be willing to tell you what he did. He was pretty helpful when I talked to him once.
Ron knows the guy... It was one of the Ralliart Grp As which was ripped apart and sold off in pieces. Used to be yellow. He might be able to put you in touch.

The 4WD Starion started its competitive life with a class win on this event — taking the ex-perimental class for non - homolagated cars..It was the Starion's potential for the future which was more exciting. The car first appeared at the Tokyo show late 1992. It is a shortened, lightened version of the rear-drive Starion turbo.
It runs on the same, 96ins wheelbase as the standard car but, overall, it is nearly 6ins shorter because the nose has been chopped back to take a full set of standard headlights in-stead of the normal car's flip-up type. The normal rear-drive of the Starion has been converted into all wheel-drive by the relativly straight forward method of introducing a Pajero transfer box, with uprated Internals, behind the normal transmision. This takes the drive sideways to a second propshaft that goes forwards to the front wheels: torque is permanently 50 / 50 front/rear.

that’s the same mounting place mine is going. im using the cordia non-power rack. its 23" ball to ball, but I don’t care. if its a prob I can change it later on. the upside it is has the right rod ends on it and I only have to cut the arms down and re-thread them.
