Voltage issue

Post by WidebodyWoody »

Hey guys

So my starion has always had this issue where the voltage drops from 12 volts to 10 when the indicator is on. Every time the indicator lights light up, the voltage drops, then jumps back up. This happens when at idle. Last night, with the brake lights on AND the indicator, it dropped down to 8 volts and stalled out. Is this just that my alternator is a lower voltage? Or something else? Thanks.

Definately sounds like an alternator issue. Can you check the voltage directly at the back of the alternator while its running at idle, and then at around 2500rpm?

When rectifiers start getting a bit iffy they can cause the problems you describe.. But so can about a million other things.

Check all your grounds are making good connection too, particularly the main battery ground in the engine bay that bolts to the side of the battery tray mount, and the engine, plus the one that connects to the intake manifold.

Also make sure your sub-main fusible links are in good shape and making good contact.
