Head/block crap!
Head/block crap!
Found out why number 4 filled with water.
What's the easy way to get rid of the old leftover gasket crap on the head and block. Do I need to get rid of it? There's loads of what looks like copper deposits all over both parts, but the current gasket is not hte cause.

Yep get the head welded & faced at the very least, but get it a full service if u have the $$.
The block cannot be faced without a full tear down, use a paint scraper & scotchbrite pads to get it spotless.
Cleanliness is next to godliness when doing cylinder head gaskets..

Al, you're back from Gippy Lakes!
That's yet another Monotorque HG failure...3 including mine in Melbourne alone. I won't touch them ever again!
See what JJH has posted up recently and people's recommendations Al.
Yes, ARP and spacers.

Got me a big plastic wrapped present
All checked, machined to get rid of 10/1000th worth of a bow (basically bugger all) and ready to go back on. No issue with water jacket holes. Thanks Peter for the machine shop.
Also paint scraperised the block, came up pretty good, got pretty much all the crap off it.
