Good to see a home grown initiative get into production and create jobs locally. Rather than the story of another "dig a hole in the ground billionaire".
Especially good news, as the manufacturing sector in Victoria is on its last legs.

Great initiative, but god it's an ugly wheel!

Since holden now use chinese wheels on all their cars, ROH (the last major wheel maker in aus) now only make trailer wheels. So now there is only a handful of niche/specialist manufacturers left.

I know it wont affect these wheels and most users on here. But the 1st type of full carbon drag wheels that were tested a couple of weeks ago in the states.

Failed on their 1st launch. The hubs tore straight out of the wheels.

the question is.. were they designed properly using CAD etc or some guy just went "yeah so alloy wheels of x thickness can withstand this much force, so carbon fibre should be able to withstand this much.. that'll do.."

Yeah, good to see GasJA, manufacturing has been stuffed in this country for 25 years. I also agree its an ugly design - those spokes will cop it hard with gutter rash too but they may have some nice designs.
I concur that ROH make a solid wheel and they generally don't warp, though they will crack with a big enough load. Like hitting something...

The carbon fibre wheel is about half the weight and three times the strength of conventional metal wheels.
With bicycles, lowering the weight of the wheels is reduces the rotational momentum. The effect of weight reduction of the wheels is double the effect of removing mass from the rest of the bicycle. The net effect is faster acceleration and deceleration. (From DeLong's book).
This is why they are claiming improved fuel efficiency and they are targeting the high end sports car marked.
