IT STARTED!!! (and power steering q)
yay, after a bit of coaxing it finally started and is running smoothly. Thanks to all who have helped answer the many questions and thanks heaps to my mate tom for basically showing me how to do everything and doing allot himself.
The result of lots of metal cooler piping and a pod were like those expected, but i didnt think it would be to this extent, bit of a rev, and at only 3.5krpm no boost on the boost guage and still gets a massive flutter, vid in a few days hopefully if i have time.
and of course, the bad bit, power steering, this is a weird one. It worked fine, but noisy, of course theres air in the system. So turn the wheel back and forth to bleed it, its working as the noise is getting quieter give it a bit of a rev, about 3k, and next time i tried the steering it went fully heavy. There are no leaks at all, the system is a little bit to full but tried it with the cap off and still heavy, it doesnt make any noise at all, the wheels still turn the pulley is still connected and spinning, i cant see anything wrong, ive got no clue on this one. The steering box is fresh from a coltspeed rebuild, 1st time its been used and the pump is maybe been used for 2 months since the coltspeed rebuild but has been sitting for about 10 months.
Any ideas?
i think i might even be able to get it regod in time.

i THINK power steering fluid is thicker
i dont know how mitsubishi says to bleed it but i think you will find you need to crack (loosen) the outlet of the pump (the top port????) then turn the wheel with engine on for a bit until the noise from the leak is constant or silent (the noise of oil leaking is next to nothing, but the noise of oil leaking with air bubbles in it is quite loud.) hope this is no help what-so-ever and makes you confused as hell! :D
i have heard sooooooo many times that 'you need to run it in' hydraulics DONT need to be run-in!! they work the first time, every time. if they dont they will only get worse. if it DOES need running in then 'running it in' will just flog it out till it stops makeing noise. noise is a waste of energy. a 300lpm hydraulic pump @ 5000 psi can make walls shake, a power steering pump shouldent make any noise audible over the engine. unless it was made by holden. (yegh, 30thou undersize on crank bearings is normal) pffft...... back to beer. :D

I figured out the meaning of life, and since then every day just gets worse.
Warranty void if stupid.

hey you might need to use the bleed valve that is on the steering box right next to the big bolt in the centre at lot of the time air is trapped that can't escape so you will need to blle it like brakes by using the bleed valve
hopefully this will help but other wise check what fluid the box should have cause some boxes take power steering fluid and some take automatic trans fluid the wrong stuff will kill the steering
cheers hope this helps

To bleed it, jack the front of the car up so there is no load on the steering, then start the car up and turn it left to right.
Power steering fluid is just ATF with or without dye. calling it power steering fluid is just marketing. some cars do take different types of fluids however ATF is correct for the Staz.
when you say full heavy do you mean it is fully locked up or just really heavy to drive?
does the steering self center when you drive?
If its just heavy to steer and wont self center, the top adjusting nut is to tight.
iv just been down the same track :?
