after closing my boot , the light stayed on and now i cant arm my cars alarm,
i found the switch but when pushing down on it there was no change to the light. then i broke it out of fusration (doh :-()
i cut the wire and tried earthing it to the chassis with no change also..
any ideas please? thanks all

Get another switch and then use washers to space the switch body lower so that it will turn off. Trial and error will sort it, that's what I did to fix mine.
Another point is to ensure both catches are fully closing on bootlid latches. The light might go out if you push each side of the bootlid. If the alignment is a little out of you have the car parked on an incline, that might be enough to stop it closing fully, even though it looks closed.
Maybe taking the globe out of the instrument cluster might resolve the issue in the short term, cant say for sure whether that would work though.
Besides, to do so would mean pulling the dash apart to get to it, so its probably more work than to just fix the switch.

Removing the dash globe simply means you wont know that the light is on
It will not trick the alarm into arming.
Sounds like you have a short somewhere, and it is earthing at another point... or something, and cuasing it to remain lit.
We had this issue with the FTO, was simply bad wiring.
