Timing Question.

Ok next problem. when i took the front of the motor apart to replace the water pump i turned the motor to TDC then took the front pullleys and timing cover off, then i marked with a paint pen on each cam sprocket i also noted the timing marks where horizontal on both sprokets. then i makred the crank sproket. then removed the tensioner and removed the belt. after replacing the water pump and putting everything back together ive found that if i have all paint marks lined up correctly and replace the tensioner once the crank pulley is on it doesnt sit at exactly TDC its about 10 degrees out. when i pull the cam pulley round to TDC it pulls the cam sprokets out of align.

Now i didnt touch the tension on the tensioner, i just undid all retaining bolts. My guess is i need to let some tension off the belt so everything sits inline as it was before i removed the belt.
If this is the case how do i let off the tension? do i loosed the hex screw on the bottom of the tensioner.

did u line everything up on top dead centre before you dismantled it? also remember there is a bolt you pull out on the passengers side of the block halfway down to make sure that the lower balance shaft is aligned (by inserting a 6mm diameter screwdriver in about 8 cm's)

you shouldnt have to mark anything as there are already marks everywhere..

yes when you let the auto tensioner go it will pull the cam gears around a bit, if it's past the alignment marks then retime the gears..

yeah everything was at tdc when i took the belt off. so i just make make sure all the marks are where they were and it will be sweet.

how exactl do i check the align ment of the balance shaft. there is an arrow on the balance shaft sproket that lines up at tdc. is this what you mean?
