why is it that most ( if not all ) twin cam convertions to staz use the staz bottom end and convert all the timing gear + head to fit

wouldn't it be easier to change the gear box to suit the small bolt pattern

just a thought

Because there is no easy solution.
Also you don't have to "convert" anything it all bolts in with no mods to the Starion bottom end.

fair enough !

I though that running the small pattern would be an advantage as the large power sapping flywheel could be replaced with a smaller ( lighter flywheel ) at the same time .
picking up performance
I know the differance a small light flywheel makes to my N/A 4G54 and the performance advantage is well worth it

by the way I have to do a twin cam to staz bottom end myself soon for a customer he has already sent me the staz and a VR4 is still on its way

yes thats a fairly easy convertion and there is a bellhousing from a 2 Lt boag warner box that does the job with a convertion plate
the biggest problem for a staz is that they were cable not hyd

I looked through some of my photos when i built my motor and i now can recall that the timing gear on the vr4 is much thicker and if you use the balance shaft gear aswell the large centre balancer bolt will not make enough thread contact with the starion crank.
Found it. :D
