OOHH NOO!!! Gav's coming back!!!!
well, long time no post sorry - partially due to crash tho :(
this happenned 7 weeks ago (3rd march) (have no recollection of 5 mins before to 4 days after this by the way!!)
Was going for a light ride with a few mates down through the National park South of Syd - apparently we were not hooning, just sensible speeds (police have confirmed this) - unfortunately which i think was yet again my letdown was the shite hard tyre on the back, my mate (starjunk) came around a corner to see a big cloud of dust - i had lost control, hit the kerb and fallen off, hitting a tree (which also my bike did a few flips and hit another tree too ) Chopper lifted to St Georges Hospital, spent about 3 days in a coma and a week in intensive care - was there for 3 weeks in total, then 6 days in the brain injury rehab clinic in Ryde doing all the tests with therapists and neuro peoples to prove i am ok in the head :-) Then home for 2 weeks rest and now been retested, told i'm more advanced (read - farking LUCKY) than any other case in Syd and allowed to drive and get back to work (first day was monday) for 3 days a week at 3 hrs, then next week 5 hrs, then 8, then back to full time...
End results were severe bleeding of the brain (the thought was permanent brain damage) Back has one mushed vertebrae and 2 broken ones in the middle of it, and a 7 hour operation 4mm from my spinal cord to "screw" and rod 4 vertebrae together (if they bumped the spinal cord i woould have been paralyzed!!!) And right wrist broken. But apparently i'm a bit of a miracle recovery boy, once the brain stopped bleeding and the morphine wore off i snapped back to normal, hence only having one week in brain injury clinic (record) and only waiting 2 weeks after leaving there to get driving and work privileges back (another record)...
At the moment its really just loss of back strength (annoying!), discomfort that grows to an ache by the end of the day(multiplied by the damn plastic brace that also hurts my ribs that i have to wear grrr), and a annoying section of my back that has no sensitivity - pin pricks feel just like a gently thumb push - wish i had that in my tae kwan do days :-)
So yer, bit of a life update for you all :) will still want to catch up with y'all, just give me a bit longer to lose the brace so i look slightly more normal and we can coffee it :) unfortunately no waterskiing with wantsom and gotsom for quite a while tho :?
