My glass does have the cool angle on it... all the way to the end of the fibreglass.

Better check before you try and drill through it. :)

Just went and had a look.. I stand corrected :) I guess it's getting glued then. I just have visions of paint getting ripped off..

It's possible to drill glass, but it's an expensive procedure if you get it wrong.

I think with the large 3-piece type rear spoiler the glue option is OK... since the glue is covering a large surface area. Plus there is no air flowing under the spoiler.. only over it.

I don't know about gluing a twin post wing such as your though.. I doubt it would have the strength.

Quite the dilemma.. perhaps some 90 degree brackets on each post and then use some shallow anchor bolts to hold it down.

.. but how would you hide the brackets?

I think if you're careful and use a proper diamond bit, you could drill two holes in the glass for a couple of 'security' screws in conjunction with glue.

You could do some fancy fibreglassing or bog-work to cover the brackets up.

Be carefull drilling that glass if you decide that way. One false move and... well I have a spare rear hatch standing by. :)

I think i'll have to give it a shot and see how it goes :) I'm also relying on the glue holding the hatch to the glass to reduce the chance of cracking.

Eeeek!

Perhaps ask a glass specialist if it is possible to drill.. and preferably get them to do it for you.

I reckon your headed for disaster... but I hope it works OK for your sake.

Al, yes there is a hollow area between the glass and the fibreglass section.

The problem is HCCA's spoiler is attached to the fibreglass section from the inside. How do you screw it in with the glass in the way?

You'd have to remove the fibreglass cover. Not an easy job.

I can't say that i'm keen to remove the glass from the hatch - probably more likely to break it doing that than by drilling it.

Aww come on, the instructions say just use a small hammer!!!

I reckon you may be able to get the glue apart with a fine blade or piano wire. And a lot of patience. Maybe a little heat too, leave the hatch in the sun to warm it up and ty it?

We'll both have to pull it apart and bolt from the inside, then re-glue the glass back on.

Sounds like the way to go Al.

There is no way I would try and drill that glass. It'll shatter before you know it.

Take your time trying to get that fibreglass off. Some of the paint might crack so you probably need to respray it, fit the spoiler then re-attach it to the glass.

Use plenty of loctite on the threads too... you don't want those coming loose.

No, I wouldn't ever try to drill glass.

Well, I'll try the first hatch, if I stuff it then I'll give my proper one to somebody else to stuff up.

Needs paint anyway, thought I would sort all this out before getting it painted, and put it all back together once it's done.

Loctite and Nylocks me thinks.
