all I know is its red and I am dyslexic ....... easier a GTO than 3000GT..... but even they are different!
What were they released as in NZ?........ I assume the US was the only one with it as a Dodge Stealth!!

I apologise for my error...... :?
1985 JB - owned from new.
1986 JD - used to own one.......

we had them as the GTO for both domestic models and the masses of imported models which reached our shores. I think they were called the 3000GT in the states, Europe and Australia so they wouldn't cause confusion with the existing GTOs in those continents. Yes the states were the only place they were released as the Dodge Stealth - the GTO was designed and developed in partnership with Dodge which explains where the extra weight and soft American lines comes from.

i've actually seen a pre-prod photo of a 3000GT with STARION GTO on the taillight panel... they ditched the starion nameplate at the last minute apparently..

yeah technically the GTO was the successor to the Starion, under CAPS the Starion and GTO are listed in the same category.

yeap, I have a mag from 1989 or 1990 (i forget which) which has a story about the "replacement" for the starion.. to be known as trhe starion gto, and it was sketches of a 3000gt. If i find it, I'll take pictures and post em.

Someone once told me that the GTOs were the non turbo and sometimes the fwd ones, while the 3000gt models were the turbo awd ones.. not sure if there is much truth to this.

no not true it just depends on the market they were sold in. In Japan (and NZ) they were GTOs, while in the US they couldn't call them the GTO due to the Pontiac GTO, and in Europe due to the Ferrari GTO series. Not sure why they weren't called GTO in Australia, possibly because of the Falcon GT-HO.

Most markets only had the choice of a 4WD twin turbo manual or 4WD N/A in manual or automatic - but in the states the Dodge Stealth was offered in FWD with the SOHC 12V engine, and when the Stealth was discontinued you could get the 3000GT in FWD with the SOHC 12V engine.

The GTOs we had locally sold here were Euro-spec clones, so they had mph gauage cluster, leather interior, more boost (because there was no Japanese 276hp restriction) amongst other things.
