yeah and i believe there is alot more to it than that. if you look at the upper location of the strut assembly it appears to be higher than stock for more travel im assuming. they are also at a different angle im sure so there is less camber gain per travel.
I plan on one day building an awd 2.6l starion but the motor will be in the stock location and the Tcase will either have a viscous clutch like the 2nd gen montero, or an electromagnet setup like the scoobys.
i think the group B car had a total of 6 or 7 coolers on it as well. One for each diff, one for the tcase, one for the tranny, a radiator, and oil cooler or two.

yeah the rear struts mount differently to the rear hubs too, much like a modern FWD car struts
