I've been thinking about this some more...
Adding some value to this post (only took 4 posts to do it!), Top Performance (Koni head office) in Vermont do coil over conversions on the original legs.
They'll take the top off to replace them with rebound adjustment inserts, then put a thread down the leg to take the adjustable spring platform.
They do them for other cars for two or three hundred dollars a pair, plus inserts.
And it all obviously fits up the same way cause nothing has changed with top/bottom mounting points.
So this might be a good cost effective option to explore.

Fixed my post, some ordinary keyboard bashing occurred...
I have some mad motorsport mates who use these for hillclimbs, autocrosses etc. They look and have the same adjustments as Phil has got...

Are you saying Dave, that Phil has external res's?
It's not like Starions stripped out for racing would be difficult to get to.
For street it might be a bit fiddly using the Koni key to adjust the rears though...

if tein is so good why not get em off the shelf ready to go and let me know how good they are.
go buy em, bolt em in and show us. or cant you do that? LOL
whats this thread about again? :glare:
there was interest in motorsport quality BOLT IN coil overs to be organised, so here is a solution/option.
dont ask the question if you dont want answers.
the offer stands.
when $1500 set race coil overs dont appear let me know.

they rebushed everything, pretty much everything under the car was new. u should have seen the labour rate they stung him with though.. i'd say the job was about double the price it should have been.enthuzed wrote:Bloody Hell! That's 3 or 4 times what he should have paid perhaps...

Good work mick, where did i say he was a dumb ass with no idea. I said he also sells the suspension you rave about and has the potential to be bias, hence why you should see what else other people who use tein say about the suspension. But thats okay, its your money and your car so you can spend it anyway you like, but before you make a broad statement of saying tein are cheap and nasty you should sought the opinion of others who actually use the suspension. If bad mouthing tein makes your purchase of the coil-over you choose make you feel better by all means its your choice.Mick wrote:rice thief well done. really.

My starion is last thing I spend my time on these days given I have two more important things in my life. When the time comes that I will keep my options open and tein might be one i choose in the end, what I wont do is dismiss them to be cheap and nasty before I see what is available from them to suit the starion. But in the meantime if you want to see what sort of cars use tein, go to your local trackday and see what the street cars are running and out of them who uses tein and what times they run.Mick wrote:if tein is so good why not get em off the shelf ready to go and let me know how good they are.

I dont know where you pulled the figure of $1500 for race coil-overs, maybe in dreamland. If your budget goes that far, id go to justjap and see if they can do you a set of G4 coil-overs to suit the starion. If you want to spend the money then DMS coil-overs are $4000 from what redzone said. The dms coil-over would be one of the best coil over options that will fit a starion, given their strict quality control and there experience in motorsport. Then theres the tein option that groupa mention, which are a brand name coil-over that can be rebuilt in australia. Finally there the one you mention which fits somewhere in that group. So these are some of your options when it comes to coil-overs, theres obviously more, but these are what have come to light.Mick wrote:whats this thread about again? :glare:

wasnt after your life story mate just be nice not to have to peanuts picked out of your poo if you try to help others out...
if you're so desperate to know about the $1500 price, early in this thread some surgeon said my price was about double what people should be paying...
99% of the time anything base model is cheap and nasty... teins entry model is apparently no exception. i dont see all the masses of tein users arguing mate so i'll hold my breath and wait ay?
ALL avenues of brands to use were considered using 20 years of personal experience and contacts in the drag, rally and circuit racing communities.
obviously you're not impressed but i'm grateful for hassle this has saved and i wanted to share it round.
anyway, next time mate.

actually what i said was, that the price was about double what people on here WOULD PAY, not that mick's coil overs were only worth half what he paid. believe me i know how much R&D on this sort of stuff is worth, my big front brakes cost me $1800 all up...
basically mick's option is a good one for those with that kinda cash, AS LONG AS THE QUALITY IS THERE. no-name stuff has to be proven. unfortunately mick, u will have to prove how good they are before people on an internet forum will cough up that kinda cash for suspension upgrades. they wont take it on word of mouth.. most people on here spew about the cost of a multipoint conversion, let alone even consider paying $3500 for coil overs..

Just to clear a few things up...
D2, G4 and K-Sport are all the same coilovers from China. They're just anodised in different spring rates.
Tein are a quality brand with years of research, design and reputation behind them. D2, G4 and K-Sport are relatively new with not such a reputation.
Both come with a warranty (at least the ones from Just Jap do) although from many reports you're more likely to use it (and quickly) with the latter.
I personally have Teins in my car. Totally transformed the way my AWD tank handles

So mick when i talk about the option starion owners have, it becomes a life story, whos picking peanuts out of poo now? You've gone from making a broad statement about teins being cheap and nasty to now changing your story to entry level suspension is cheap and nasty including teins.
Having no experience with the tein super sport i can't say with any certainity that isnt the case but those who use the flex and monoflex models of teins.
As I said go to a track day and see what those using teins are doing time wise, whats to point of arguing with you on the internet?
Finally no where in my post did i say your's and your suspension guy's efforts in getting coil-overs for starions but when a comment as made about a brand that is unjustified then dont be surprised when someone gives the opposing view.
