Changing steering wheels
Hey all,
Long story short, the starion I bought had a crappy aftermarket steering wheel with a busted horn in place. I just bought a new autoteknika steering wheel and boss kit to change for the current setup, but ill be damned if i can figure out how to switch the boss kits over.
The old boss kit has a bolt coming up through the center with a nut on it that I have managed to remove, but the boss still does not move. There appears to be 5 rivets that may or may not be holding the kit on, it is hard to tell, but there is also a large round metal disc surrounding the bolt, with a smaller semi circle cut out of it. I have a feeling that this must be removed to put the new boss kit in.
Has anyone had any experience removing the standard boss from the starion to put a new aftermarket wheel in? IF anyone can help at all, it would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Jeff

the way I have done it be4 is to leave the wheel on, put seat forward so the wheel is right in front of you, put knees behind wheel and try to force it off while leaving the nut on but loose at the end of the thread to protect it and use a brass punch and hammer and shock the steering coulomb (hit the nut), the boss will start to jump toward you then fall of after more hitting and pulling. might wanna check with others, if you damage the thread don’t blame me :D

Do you want me to take a picture of it to see if that might help me explain the situation?

Undo the centre bolt but not all the way.. don't want that wheel to whack you in the gut.
Then pull like buggery. Give a yank on the left and yank it on the right. Top and bottom. Perservere and you'll get it.
The centre bolt is the only thing holding it on.

Ive never removed a boss kit, but Mitsi factory wheels a few times to install BOSS kits, V3000's and Galants.
I took a different approach
Took the center nut off, got some other bastard to pull it, and giggled when he smacked himself in the face.
Didn't really hurt him, but I found it amusing. Got the wheel off!!
This post was handy, because now I've learned the obvious mistake, leave the centre bolt slightly on
cheers!
