flappa wrote:not that I'm aware of... what year was that supposed to be? Fastest I've seen for a factory car was Brad Jones at 269 during qualy for 1986.

And with the longest diff allowed for the starion at 3.3 he would have been doing some massive revs to do that, dad was doing 7800 to get 272.
i think he set this record in 1989 but i'm not 100% sure

Doesn't sound right mate, 1989 was the last year the factory car ran at Bathurst, under the sutherland mitsu banner, but Brad wasn't driving it.

296 is just too fast for a group A starion... By the end of group A the GTR's, VN's and DJR/PJ Sierras were all doing 290-280.. And they were definitely faster than any Starion.

For the record, Toys contacted me like crazy back in January this year for the 2.4 donk. He made me stuff around and measure shit, take photos and made me believe he was serious.
After two weeks of this, the silence was deafening. Some excuse about the wrong type of engine. I believed that too.

Now I've read a bunch of posts, this thread and a couple of others, I've realised I got taken for a ride by one top class player in the tyre-kicker category.

The funny thing is, using this block as the basis of a decent build up would net him some serious numbers. It's does mean he'd be moving from his claim of a 400 horses from a 2L SOHC, but from first glance who would know. Thems those goal posts which keep shifting...

It's all bullshit anyway, that's been stated a number of times by the half-wit himself. ay? ay? ay? ay?

Ultimately, I like to choose how I waste my time (e.g this thread) but don't like others doing that for me...

That said, I've had some entertainment. :)
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
How?

That's not right either, The book from 1986 lists 269 in qualy. As I said before, I'll believe it when I see it written down.

it actually wasn't written down in the top ten shootout Brad Jones car was allowed to enter because his car was so low and the wheel measure tool they had his tyres were to wide but in his qualify thats what he did i'll get groupralliart to confirm :)

Hi guys, just quickly, as I have the kids going crazy at the moment. I will get back here tonight when I have more time if you like and give you my recollections of bathurst in the mid 80's while crewing for KB/Graham Moore/Michelle DeCourt and then for the factory cars: Brad Jones/Akahiko Nakaya. YES! I can confirm that the car topped the speed records down conrod straight that year with 286? I have it written down and also have a book where it is also detailed. I will dig it up and dribble on about Bathurst tonight. I hope I don't bore you too much. Cheers Steve

Okay, I thought this warrants a new thread so will start it under the banner 'Bathurst history'. I will do it in a few parts so I can spread the story from 1985 - 1986. Go read if you like. Cheers Steve

P.S. This was over 20 years ago and I was a spritely 18 year old Starion nut. So all to the best of my recollection.

You have been building this mythical engine since Feb 2004... that is going to be run on LPG? Have a DASH head? Run a T88 turbo (at one stage)???

Have you posted pics of your car or engine on this website??

PS: $20 says you won't have dynoed and put it down the 1/4 mile before 2007.

I was going to give him $50 if he did it. If he didn't I was going to choose a new avatar for him... but he didn't agree.
