Post by igottasicjb »

Still allot of work to go but this is about 20 hours into it, still requires touch ups but I’ll go over the whole car again to do that.
The interior in about 85% clean and the exterior in about 35% clean

I’ve still yet to get to the under body and not looking forward to it :wtf:

The only surprises I’ve found is around the middle of the firewall but its not much and the bottom corners of the windscreen and the top sills of the doors.
There is a little bit of filiform corrosion (looks like spider web marks) around some of the spot welds but nothing the sandblaster won't fix. Other than that the car is rust free so far. Which is surprising considering the age of the vehicle,

I got some good paint stripper from work so it makes it allot faster. Not even polished 2 Pac can stop this stuff, only problem if it farkin hurts like hell when it gets on you :o

just park it behind an F-111 doing a dump and burn and it'll be back to bare metal in no time! LOL

i'm using wire brushes on my die grinder and angle grinder for removing seam sealant and a few bits of bog but all it does is smear the paint over the metal. I would never use one on a pannel it would have the same effect as shot peening and actually stretch the metal, which is great if you want a wave finish on the pannel.
but like you said...... bog, sealant and those anoying little stripped out plastic clips that are hard to remove wire wheels are great.

rofl parking it behind a f-111 are you sure the heat won't warp the pannel???

reminds me of the high octane overboost DVD, were they chain an old escort behind that jet drag car rofl rofl

thats about all there good for rofl

^^^ hey i never said anything about it still being straight, just that it would be an effective way of removing paint!

best way i've ever seen of removing paint from a project car is redi-strip in victoria, basically a big tank that u sit the bare shell in, dissolves anything and everything thats not steel, so u gotta make sure its BARE! then they dip it in a neutralising tank, then wash it down, then dip it in a big tank of anti-rust solution..

hey presto "new" shell...

would be nice if they were in brissi. it would make stripping it so easy,
i've seen electro priming done on a DVD and that would be a good way to prim all the internal pannels etc..

its like electroplating but they use primer......oh to have an endless bank acount

Is this the one you're restoring using the rear quarter and door from the one you just cut up?

Unfortunately when I first bought the car about 4 years ago it was dead straight, had a few engine probs that took about 6 weeks to sort out, 2 days after getting it running sweet I parked it outside IGA and went inside to get some food. Came back about 10-15 min later and someone had hit the driver’s door and the whole 1/4 panel with what looks like a tray back Ute. Needless to say the left no note and pissed off.
Rather than pull it all out and bog the thing I’m getting my panel shop to unstitch the panel and spot-weld the donor one on.

Do you still have the passenger side rear quarter?
I've got a mate who wants that section, though shipping it from Bris to Melb might be prohibitive.

If you have it, is it up for sale? This will save him butchering a good whole shell.
