Manual Steering Box Conversion
the pitman arm adjustment can be screwed in a little
maybe 1/4 ot 1/2 a turn clockwise this may cure
your bottom end leak and free play can be removed
by turning the valve body free play adjustment 1/8 to 1/4
turns in
If the box is still in the car (and you think its fingered)
then it cant hurt to try it ?, "can it" ???
I believe everyone considering a box swap, should at lest
try converting the stazza box first.
Cheers:Phil.

Hey there Alspos, Yes if you pull a starion steering box appart
youll see that it has (1)a 2 way valve set up ) (2) a rack piston
(3) Rack piston return.
.remove valve pressure
.remove rack piston pressure
.remove rack piston return pressure
= full manual steering

So your saying that's because of the pressure inside the steering box?
So do what you say, and the steering will get lighter? Correct?

I wasn't game to play around internally with the standard box, and a low km scorpion box and shaft cost $50 from the wreckers.
The steering nuckle on the steering shaft was stuffed on my car due to driving with dead power steering so it needed replacing anyway, and imo. manual box is neater, and you don't need to plug power steer inlets on box, plus it's lighter(fractionally) but good work, I would have modified the starion box if I knew it would work, I just assumed the ratio's were different and it wouldn't function without fluid power. :beer

How many km's have you done with this set up?
Would draining all the fluid remove all lubrication and it end up seizing completely while driving one day?

If you mod it by taking out the valves and block the outlets
Why not fill her up with PS fluid before you completly block the outlets. That should increase life expectancy..
Besides.. how is a manual box lubricated?

Ok - so have looked into this, can for the life of me find anyone that is wrecking a Scorpion that still has the manual steering box and steering shaft... Plenty of Sigma's about, so would I be able to get away with the Sigma box, and then use a universal shaft like the following ?

any thoughts or idea's appreciated.

also would it be possible as an alternative to just run a short hose between the two power steering hose outlets? ie where they screw in to the box?
any info would be great as i need my car done before historic meeting in october!
