I think that isn't a problem with the dohc, which would be again a positive point for it..

Same thing as VL turbos. Most dont bother going twin cam.

Ah.... I think you'll find the DOHC head WAS from the 80's - it's just been refined since it was introducedcompressor wrote:boosted wrote:What about cracking head (sohc),i experienced this too much.

Several twincam street staz conversions have passed thru u.s. SQclub.
Mod for mod I'll still take the 2.6L sohc over it. G54 have simply set some highwater-marks, untouched by their 2L dohc counterparts.
Examples;
g54 street car with a 'small responsive turbo' @ 14psi gone 12.4.
g54 gone 12.8sec 1/4 using a 12A turbo + fuel-only ecu!
g54 oe cam, 6200rpm redline, old T04b turbo +75shot, gone 10.4s
Still haven't seen any 4g63 dohc street staz match that, same mods.
Do the math, I bet it surprises you which emerges the victor.
A well matched combination creates a standout, not dohc.
I've seen no 2L sohc staz pushed by a t4 compressor @30+ psi, with a proven cam, etc., so how can one deem its potential inadequate ?
A handful seem to have done reasonably well with the 2L sohc tho... not to mention 2.4L sohc possibilities, as 4g64b has.
Dohc does not automatically award anybody a faster car. Nonsense.
Same way folks "think" GT ballbearing technology 'rules'. It doesn't.
We have LOTS of 2 valve motors on this side of the world that will eat dohc, and at a fraction of the cost. Fact. 80s ain't a bad place to be :)

Ive seen 2 in person, driven One, not 30+ psi, but 20+, and using a better turbo then T4. Convinced me to stay SOHCquest wrote: I've seen no 2L sohc staz pushed by a t4 compressor @30+ psi, with a proven cam, etc., so how can one deem its potential inadequate ?

power x cost the 2.6 gets my vote as well although there are few on this site that would agreequest wrote::1

one local guy running a 2.6 in a galant with very basic mods
stock bottom end with flat top pistons ( about 9:1 comp )
stock magna head ( M6 casting )
double valve springs and a 31/79 cam
stock sigma turbo manifold and turbo ( old school )
and a magna efi
136 Kw ( 182 Hp ) atw with 6 pound at 5800 rpm and with that comp its so streetable
it will be good to see what that does when the boost is lifted to 10 -12 psi
by the way I'm not anti DOHC I plan to do a turbo 1753 cc ( destroked 4G62 ) with a DOHC to run IPRA rules - under 3 Lt class
by the way Ash we do have a 2 - 3 Lt class here in Vic and Rx7s rule the class
1753 x 1.7 = 2.98 Lt and slide it in the sigma that should push a 990 Kg car quite well and reduce the weight of the car a bit

difference between 20+psi and 30s, can change 'beauty' to a 'beast'.
a T04 compressor wound out, will cover an hp goal imaginable for a steet/strip staz. Depending on trim, it can move enough air to land anywhere in the high 300s to shy of 600hp. I dunno how much of a "better turbo" would exist.
Not anti-twin here either. Mitsu 4s r my favourite. I have a sample of each; 2, 2.4, 2.6L
To be honest, I actually prefer the smoothness and simplicity of the 2L sohc. Curious about its limits tho, so I'll try & find it.... then the 2.4 will pick up from there.

^^^ QFT. the combination in the orange car cost me about $4000 all up, and got me flat 13's. thats excluding labour costs of course!Junkers wrote:I'm following the SOHC path not because I think it can produce more power than a DOHC, because obviously it can't. But I am choosing to go with it because I want my Starion to be a Starion and bang for buck you can get more out of a SOHC engine if your budget is below 5-6k.
