My JA has perfect motor - FMIC - forgies - high flow head but...rusted front guards and keyed on every panel. Time to get serious or time to take it to the tip.

Almost since birth. Not only was it given a stupid name by accident and made the laughing stock of the motoring world, but it also didn't live up to it's expectations, especially in Australia.

Sales in Australia for the JA were like 1400 or so, 400 or so for the JB and with the introduction of the JD model in '85-86, the "Starion" was forever doomed. Mitsubishi had to conform to new emmision regulations, include a catalytic converter and Unleaded petrol to the car. This produced 15Kw less power then the previous two models, yet Mitsu in their marketing genius decided to INCREASE the price of the car by $4000. That's a lot of dough for a car in 1985! That's why the JD sold only 60 cars and was subsequently removed from the Aus market. That is also why we never got the Widebody.

The Starion name was used for the last time in 1990 with the introduction of 'Starion GTO', which wasn't an instant success. They removed the 'Starion' name and the 3000GT/GTO was born. The death of the Starion.

benny wrote:" how does fitting a gt-wing butcher the car??
If you've got this far, you may now start to understand the significance of the car that started the turbo revolution and its importance in motoring history.

The Starion is a rare, magnificent achievement in motoring technology. It is not a car that can be taken for granted (Try and buy parts), nor is it car that should be covered in stickers, cut up, bits bolted onto it, riced or anything resembling it!

The Starion is not a car that should EVER be allowed to be some 'P' platers fun for 2 years, hacked up, sold and eventually end up being crushed!

What are you going to do with the car when you get bored with it? You will. It's old, things are breaking. It never works right! Who wants to buy an old, beat-up 80's car with a rice wing on the back?

The car will either be sold to some other 'P' plater will will undoubtedly write it off or it will sit in your garden and rust.

Most members on this forum own a Starion or Starions because they have a passion for the car. They are in for the long haul. Not just bail when the going gets tough. I know I'm never planning on getting rid of mine.

Maybe you should weigh up where you want to go with your car. What about in x years time when you realise that the wing looks stupid and you take it off!? Are just going to head down the local wreckers and get another hatch? :(

ok i understand the passion/fanaticism that people have for their chosen vehicle.

i owned one back in 98/99 and due to dodgy mechanical advice it blew up and it was sold with a busted motor for 1k to a guy who put a atmo 4g63 on lpg in it... and i have been waiting for another ever since.

this time things will be different, the car is the last car i will own, i'm planning mods to "bring it up to spec" in the reliability stakes ( multi point, aftermarket computer.. etc ) if the opportunity arises a dohc engine will replace the sohc instead. the paint will be redone etc think of a long term restoration thats the plan.

do i see it as destroying a classic?.. kinda
do i think its a bad thing?.. no
why?... to survive one must adapt
will it survive with the current power plant?... no

now i know there are plenty of you who do not think it a sin to replace the motor ( the heart of it really ) so how does fitting a wing ( correctly mind you not gaff tape and zip tie ) destroy the car?? fitting JD vents and a JD front bar would be ok, side skirts and a JD 3-piece wing would also pass without damnation

maybe i get the pic uploaded and see if it passes the collectives judgment.

i'm not some dumbshit p plater i just have a different personal taste i guess

I'm not having a personal attack at you as such, just questioning your intentions. I'm glad to hear that you plan on taking this thing seriously!

Any of the mods that most people do to their Starion is within limits. The like of 'other' Starion parts being added or removed is quite ok, as is the improvement of the original engine. Outrageous additions\mods are open for flaming!

Personally however, I do not approve of the 4G63 being removed. Especially for an SR20 or similar. The 4G63 has a proven track record, why would you want to change it?

As for DOHC... unless you have something to prove, the SOHC is more then adequate at producing VERY large numbers. Ask Kit, DaveBek, Bodeo or JD Stazza Brendan! :D

certainly makes it look different from what seems to be 'accepted' starion styling.

mate if you like the way it looks do it. Ultimately its your car and you are the only one that has to like. Fuck what everyone else thinks.

I don't mind the RC car look myself... :beer

But everyone else has to look at it. And they won't be the good type of looks.

i thought the pics might stir some interest.. lol its kinda different to the "normal" t-wings isn't it. i even had perspex endplates made that i put l.e.ds into hehe.

yeah i know that already kit, i had the perspex endplates made for that but they are stuffed now so if i put the wing on it'll have perspex endplates again, as for the over hang i to use different brackets anyhow so that should fix it

in sadstone.. i mean happyrock .. sorry i'll try again

in gladstone its a small enough town that 1 of 2 things will happen with that wing fitted.

1. the cops will mercilessly harrass me until i pull it off.
2. the cops will quickly realise i'm not a nutter and its just the way i want my car to look and they'll leave me alone.
