Turbo choice for twin cam 4g63
I have searched and asked many questions and a clear answer seems difficult so I thought I might ask here and read opinions.
Firstly I set the basis of what the engine is required for: Daily driver (not big k's) and a Saturday sprints/Leyburn/Gatton etc events. i WOULD LOVE A ROCKET but it needs to be streetable and have bottom end.
So far the build is gathering parts which include a forget piston bottom end with a twin cam head set up, a steam pipe exhaust manifold. The intercooler and turbo are yet to come and it looks like the Autronic EMS is a popular set up with a lot of circuit/sprint drivers.
I have been told the Garrett turbo is a great option in either GT25 for rwhp of about 300 and a externally waste gated GT30 for over that with a .82 wheel? (what ever that means). I have no real idea of what HP to expect from a build of this type with about 18 -20 pound boost. The GT25 would be a great upgrade on 2.0 ltr motor and the GT30 would be great for a bigger HP motor but would it be very laggy for the lower end?
I imagine that there are many variables but would like to have a more educated assessment from others as to their experience with these two options.

What flange is on your Exhaust manifold. As in T3 style, Mitsubishi TD style..
If its a mitsu style try a TD05 big 16G.
or if you want garrett try a GT28RS or slightly bigger.
Should give you some bottom end but not leave u choked for power up top.

I've got a Turbonetics T3/T4E Turbo .50 trim with a A/R of .64 with a Stage III Turbine wheel. http://www.slowboyracing.com/estore/pro ... 292&page=1
I'm very happy with it, it delivers great power and it holds boost very well even at 7800rpm. The downside is that full boost is around 3800 rpm.
If you don't like that, EvoIII big 16G is a better option and it's nice priced to!

i'd recommend garrett part number SB8005A, which is a GT3076R, would be on song by 3500rpm, and have more than enough power potential, rated at 500 flywheel hp..
otherwise maybe a TD05H 20G

The .57 trim has a larger wheel then the .50, that means it spools later but has more power in the upper rpm scale. You can also run with more boost. The max boost that you can run with a .50 trim is 1,7bar.

The same 50 trim was the garret 'benchmark' for a street dsm before all this gt bb stuff came along. Its still proven a very good turbo and at a substantially lower price. 3800 full boost is good. DSMs gone mid 11s on pump gas with the 50.
57 trim normally t04E wheel, unless they're using the smaller t04b cover for clearance purposes ?

Moving heavy street cars weighing 3000-3350 pounds into the 11.8-11.4 zone requires a serious bit of grunt. For the money its a tough turbo to match.

got offered to swap my big16g for the .57 trim t3/to4
wont be running ridiculous boost or anything(less than 20psi)
i think it sounds like it may be too large for what im after :?
ive got an external wastegate so will be running 3 inch exhaust and should be enough to get me the power i want with the 16g
and it will be mopre responsive than the t3/to4 wont it?
