Actually Mitsubishi literaly means 3 diamonds in japanese, i think that is where they got their 3 diamond emblem from.

Also there is an episode of Top Gear where jeremy races in a starion, in the cheap car which isnt a porsche challenge

The three diamonds originates from Mitsubishi's ship building history. It is meant to resemble the blades on the propellor.
