Cheap car painting
He just gave me few tips on using the paint as im pretty new at this.
Few things he said were make sure u use a good enamel undercoat with it as this will make a big difference, preferably with an etch primer as well. Said using a roller was all good although having a sponge and brush handy for the edges of panels is useful as well, and that the edges should be feathered.
Need to do lots of wet sanding in between coats starting around 320 grit working out to 1500.
Said to do probably 3 coats to get very high gloss, and to measure it by putting a ruler at right angles to the surface painted and measuring how far the gloss is visible on the ruler, said this stuff should reflect shine 20-30cm down the ruler!!!!
This stuff might all seem basic knowledge to some of u but useful for us not so experienced people, hop these hints help.
BTW didnt have time to even start my test panel yday :(

I have a spar painter mate that thinks this is stupid. a bit like the guy at the start of this thread. They just seem to get defensive about there skill :)

As noted he only did very little prepwork, and for the time/money spent I think it turned out ok, it goes to show the potential of this method of painting. I believe with better prep and wet sanding the results could have been much better. I've seen a few home spray jobs come out much worse than this.
I f you spend a few hours actually reading the thread (It's huge) the guys have this to show car perfection. This process works because paint technology has now caught up with spray painters. Why do we pay $4000-5000 for a decent spray job when the yanks can do a full candy apple pearl for under a grand? We are being ripped off!
This process IS working for thousands of people and many paint shop owners have also tried this and have said "This is going to put us out of business!" (Read the thread)
You can spray it, but that attracts dust and all sorts of crap. Just roll it on like they do with the boats it's designed for!

If I can add my 2 cents, when I said minimal prep i really mean it, something like 15 mins of sanding to get the surface rough to help the paint stick. In the end the paint cost around 40 dollars, i used less then half a can and the cost of a few rollers. If you actually bothered to do it properly you will get a good result, better than you could get from a cheap compressor and cheap spraygun. Its easy to apply, especially if you failed art like i did.
