What category do you track guys race in?

I used to do the odd Supersprint (NSW), but the rules really make it tough for turbo cars to compete in the road registered categories. I'm in it for the fun mainly, but its nice to get a class win if I can work out which categories are best suited.

The main mod is intercooling and boost increase which is outlawed in Type1/2. What track events do people enter Starions into? Cookie? Dirty Sanchez? Chef? anyone?

Both Wantsom and myself are building our cars to Improved Production Class specs. This is basically a 3J class with some extra governing rules on top.

Improved Production is a circuit racing class so for supersprints or hillclimbs I would compete in the 3J category.

Definitely not road registered.

In IPRA you have to run a motor from the same manufacturer as the car but you can do some things eg the Nissan motor in say a VL Commodore.

Apart from that cars must be bodily unmodified except for F&R spoilers (within certain criteria) but can be stripped interior etc.

Brakes, gearbox and diff are free but must retain the same driveline configuaration eg same number of fwd gears as standard.

Wheel and tyre restrictions govern what you can run.

The CAMSA manual is the best source for what you can do.

Its a good class with enough tuning scope to have some fun.

It depends who runs the event. In the dutton they just put us in with all the under 3 liter turbos. While this might sound unfair to us, we still finished ahead of a bunch of WRXs and a GTR that were in our class.

For the Wakefield Hillclimb and Porsche club supersprints they didn't have classes. On the downside it means we were competing against a Ferrari F355 and a whole bunch of GT2s and GT3s but on the other hand I will never forget the look on the guys face when I overtook his 911 turbo under power down the main strait. I swear to god his eyeballs popped completely out of their sockets and hit the inside of his helmet visor!!!

For a lot of the other events we do, they have classes but don't even use them. Most of the events we go in only have 40-60 cars so I don't think they bother so much with classes.

Given my Starion has an SR20 in it there's not much point trying to argue that it's a production car!!!
