Nah.. just a black grimey one which Im replacing with another black grimey one. Incidentally the diff going into the car is also oily inside... so I certainly hope this is OK.

Maybe Wantsom will know. If he knows how to put it in he should know what should be in it. Give him two glasses of water and he may even tell you.

He always seems to be covered in oily grime so he should have some idea.

I doubt he would part his wisdom with me though.. understandably there are some secrets which shouldn't be let out of the bag.

Are you just going to take his word for it then? What if Wantsom is not correct (just playing devils advocate here) You might want to get a second opinion. Ask a woman, they seem to know everything?

And now.... a serious question:
If you've got an LSD diff and a 3.9 open centre, can you swap the gears to get a 3.9 LSD?

I would say yes. Looking at the manual, the differential case assembly bolts to the crownwheel. Swap it out and bolt in the LSD one. Obviously double check before buying things on my say so.
Do you know whether the inside should be oily or not?
Cookie, does it affect performance if you paint the diff another colour?

Cam sounds credible to me. And his logic seems pretty sound. You got any other oil in the car Cookie. Could be a lot of unnecessary weight you're carting around.

Nup, I just found out I'm busy this weekend. Come to think of it, I'm always busy

BTW - its not grime on me, its camouflage. Gotsom never finds me when I'm under the car. Ahhh the serenity!!!!!

Just re read the post, 2 glasses of water you say, OK - I'm back in.
Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

My JB has a 3.9 open diff, and appears to be factory. The 3.9 has its uppoints, e.g. you can take off in 2nd very easily without stalling, acceleration is increased of course, according to my car you lose 30KPH top speed, unless you have a DASH motor.

Why would a DASH motor make any difference?
