What cam to run with stock ECU?
Thanks for the varied answers. I thought some of you had used aftermarket cams and was intersted in the results.
I don't exactly hit a brick wall at 4500rpm. Seat of the pants tells me that the initial boost rush at 3500 - 4500rpm is good but after that it is not as good. A dyno run would be a good test for it I guess.
I am running the stock TC06 at stock boost. Have recently changed plugs and leads. I'm also aware that upgrading ECUs, MPI, turbos and exhaust manifolds will greatly improve power but at this stage it's more than I'm willing to spend on the car.
I'm 100% sure its not valve float either.
Otherwise the engine is in good health with 165psi across all 4 cyclinders (recent reco).
cheers

That's why not much else happens after 4500. Airflow is limited in to the engine so not much more power is generated. Up the boost, more air will get in and you will hit the plateau later in the rev range. I am running about 10 psi and around 5000 all the fun seems to end. You can rev beyond that but it doesn't feel like it's getting anywhere. I have run 13psi and the fun stops later on again...MrBishi wrote:I am running the stock TC06 at stock boost.

There seems to be some confusion in this thread now.
The original post was asking why the power was dropping off at 4500 in a standard motor, and as the standard motor will produce power up to 5000rpm, then something is wrong with this motor.
Most of the modifications poeple have mentioned, are all good ideas, but wont fix this motors problem, as its something basic that needs to be sorted out. perhaps sensor related, but who knows without seeing/ driving the car.
This "4500 wall" that gets mentioned alot is to do with the more worked motors that are now breathing upwards of twice the cfm of air, but not being able to flow it through the head due to small standard inlet/exhaust ports, and inlet manifolds designed for maximized torque (not high air flow).

Just to clarify what I was getting at in my ungarbled techno way,
Yes, what I was referring to was the engines ability to breathe- ie get it in and expel it out. Turboing simply aids the amount of "in" . If you chuck heaps more "in" you've got to get it "out". The exhaust ports on the head and exhaust outlet on the turbo and dump pipe all help in this respect. Its all in the ying and yang as they say. You can have more ying but then yang will run out so then you get more yang, which then allows you more ying and then some more yang and so forth.

Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

MrBishi,
This might sound a bit stupid, but is your airfilter clogged? When i first got my starion (oh the smile on my face), i found that i couldnt get it to hold
a decent burnout. I knew they could, ive seen them do it. I took my airfilter out, fucked my old afm off (was covered in oil etc), replaced it with a unit
from an 85 ab cordia, and left the airfilter out.
To say this didnt make an improvement was an understatement. I only have an open diff (a fucked one at that), but the marks i left were smoking
for at least 10 minutes. Off to mitsubishi the next day, and they had a cordia filter IN STOCK hehe. Cut my airbox the same day and installed it, and
no congestion problems since.
Making myself a bit clearer, it wouldnt really hold power above 5000rpm, it felt like it was hesitating or holding back. And the turbo didnt like to
fully spool. now it sits between 5000rpm-5500rpm while i shred my tyre(s), and with only 6psi (now 7psi). :D
