Umm, problem

Post by Glen GSR III »

hey, just got my turbo on but have encountered a problem

Where the wastegate has to bolt on there seems to be a chunk of turbo in the way :glare:

Image
the gold bracket on the wastegate (acuator?) should be bolted on the snail with two bolts but due to the positioning of the cold side outlet im unable to get both bolts on...

Image

sorry if i haven't used the right terminology for the parts i have described but im at a loss as to how to fix the situation. Any input would be great.

regards,
Glen

Your going to need to customise a wastegate bracket or possibly modify that one to fit.

This is a common problem with Starions when the compressor housing has to point in that direction.

Glen, looks to me like the wastegate actuator (you did use the correct terminology) is upside down. Unbolt it from the mounting bracket and turn it over 180 degrees, then it should just fit up nicely.

Try ^ first, I reckon it will give you enough leverage to play around with to not have to customise anything.

From the photo it looks like the wastgate actuator will sit too high in relation to the wastegate flap if you flip the bracket 180.

Give it a try though.

ok...i flipped the bracket 180. fixed the problem of the acuator hitting on the compressor housing. So thats all good :)

Next thing is that the rod out of the acuator now is not quite long enough to clip onto the wastegate. Any ideas now? :?

It looks like the shaft on the end can srew up & down, get the right size o-ring spanner out and see if you can extend it out far enough ??

Ixnay, yep, thats what i was thinking...no chance of getting a longer threaded bracket that goes on the end of the rod? (between the acuator and wastegate)

Actually take a pic of it for us, as the compressor housing is in a fixed position and just cause you moved the bracket, shouldn't of changed the length........... :?

if you can thread off the end clip thing u can always get an extending nut on the end and some threaded rod to extend it.

or just unscrew the end bit off a bit so it makes the length. depends if there is enough length on the thread.

The main thing is that the bracket isn't straight so now its angled away from the wastegate. The thread is now not long enough and the bracket on the end of the thread is about 8mm short.

Ok, best/cleanest solution is to firstly remove those two bolts which are holding the bracket onto the compressor housing, then find some longer bolts and use washers or nuts underneath the bracket on the longer bolts to push the bracket accross to the left where it will then line up at the very end

I was going to suggest that too. get some actual nut spacers and space it away. Simply fixed then
